Frequently Asked Questions

Wheatland Lodge is a 95 room Independent / Level One care home. We have 88 large single (Standard) rooms that have a bedroom / living area and a full bathroom.

We are able to accommodate couples in the lodge as we have specific standard rooms that are joined by doors between them. We also have seven double sized rooms on our second level that are suitable for singles or couples as well.

We are handicap accessible and eight of our standard rooms are set up to accommodate handicap needs.

In order to apply to move into the Wheatland Lodge, you must pick up an application package from the Resident Manager. This package will include:

  • Application Form
  • Medical Assessment Form, which must be filled out by your family doctor to ensure you are medically / physically capable of moving into the lodge safely and that the lodge is a good fit for you.
  • Activities Survey as we want to know what you like to do in your spare time.

Resident Handbook, which is full of useful information regarding the lodge.

Here are the admission requirements for anyone that is interested in moving into the Wheatland Lodge:

  • You must be 65 years of age or older, sorry, no exceptions.
  • The lodge is a Non-Smoking home.
  • You must have lived in Alberta for one year prior to admission.
  • Priority will be given to applicants residing within Wheatland County.

You must submit a completed application form / medical assessment to the resident manager prior to your name being put on the waiting list for admission.

You will need to speak directly with the Resident Manager regarding your monthly costs to live at the Wheatland Lodge. The lodge is a government subsidized housing home and the monthly rent / other services are resident specific meaning the rent is based on your previous year’s tax assessment.

The other services are choices that you have that will add to your monthly rent, such as cable tv, electricity for a small fridge, oxygen, scooter, personal pendant, personal laundry, etc. so if you are interested in moving into the lodge, please speak directly with the resident manager so that accurate numbers can be provided to you.

You are required to bring all of your own furniture to make your room your home. Most residents will bring a twin bed, side table, dresser, tv, small table with two chairs or loveseat, and anything you would like to bring to make it your home.

Wheatland Lodge provides all towels, facecloths and we can supply your bedding for a twin bed if you require. Otherwise, you are invited to bring anything you prefer. There are no appliances allowed in your room other than a small bar sized fridge and a Keurig coffee / tassimo coffee machines. All other small appliances are available for your use in the many kitchenette areas of the lodge.
