Wheatland Lodge is a 95-room independent living facility for seniors needing minimal support. We provide apartment-style units, meals and housekeeping, as well as social activities and a sense of community.
We have 88 large single (standard) rooms that have a bedroom / living area and a full bathroom.
We are able to accommodate couples in the Lodge as we have specific standard rooms that are joined by doors between them. We also have seven double sized rooms on our second level that are suitable for singles or couples as well.
The building is fully accessible and eight of our standard rooms are set up to accommodate disabilities.
To apply to Wheatland Lodge, you must pick up an application package from the Resident Manager. This package will include:
- Application Form
- Medical Assessment Form, which must be filled out by your family doctor to ensure you are medically / physically capable of moving into the lodge safely and that the lodge is a good fit for you.
- Activities Survey as we want to know what you like to do in your spare time.
Resident Handbook is full of useful information regarding the Lodge.
Anyone interested in moving into the Wheatland Lodge must meet the following requirements:
- You must be 65 years of age or older, sorry, no exceptions.
- The Lodge is a non-smoking home.
- You must have lived in Alberta for one year prior to admission.
- Priority will be given to applicants residing within Wheatland County.
You must submit a completed application form / medical assessment to the resident manager prior to your name being put on the waiting list for admission.
The Alberta Seniors Lodge program ensures eligible seniors are left with at least $373/month in disposable income after rent. This affordability and inclusivity are key to serving all members of our community, regardless of financial status.
Rent is based on your previous year’s tax assessment.
The other services are choices that you have that will add to your monthly rent, such as cable tv, electricity for a small fridge, oxygen, scooter, personal pendant, personal laundry, etc. so if you are interested in moving into the lodge, please speak directly with the resident manager so that accurate numbers can be provided to you.

WHMB consistently has a significant wait list of eligible seniors. There are currently 40 seniors waiting for affordable, safe housing at Wheatland Lodge. That demand is expected to climb with each passing year.
To accommodate this growing need, WHMB is working toward a New Building. For more information on the New Build, see our Special Projects section and New Build FAQs.
